Why police tried to arrest Tani Olohun — Oyo Command

The Oyo State Police Command has clarified the reason behind Kwara State Police Command officers attempting to arrest Abdulazeez Adegbola, widely known as Tani Olohun, in Ibadan on Tuesday. The officers were on official duty to apprehend Tani Olohun pursuant to a warrant issued by the Upper Ilorin Magistrates' Court in Ilorin, following allegations of conduct that could lead to a breach of public peace.

This warrant was reportedly issued after Tani Olohun allegedly breached the conditions of his bail, leading the court to order his arrest. When officers tried to apprehend Tani Olohun, a scuffle with residents ensued. The situation was diffused when Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, intervened.

Video footage showed some individuals, believed to be police officers, attempting to detain Tani Olohun. One of the officers even presented his ID to residents who questioned the operation. Subsequently, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police instructed the officers to return to their station and advised the complainant to file a complaint at the appropriate court in Ibadan, where the alleged offense was committed, to ensure adherence to due process and territorial jurisdiction.

The Oyo State Police Command emphasized the importance of public calm and law-abiding behavior, urging citizens to avoid actions that could incite unrest or escalate tensions. The command reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law, safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring that all grievances are addressed professionally and in accordance with existing laws.
