Washington Post ordered to rehire fired columnist

The Washington Post was forced to order the reinstatement of columnist Karen Attiah, who had been fired over her social media posts following the assassination of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk in September. Attiah criticized Kirk for making racist comments about Black women and argued that the Trump administration was framing him as a martyr for the conservative cause.

The Post accused her of gross misconduct and violating its social media policies, but an arbitrator ruled that the newspaper had no just cause for her dismissal. Attiah, who had been with the newspaper for 11 years and was the last full-time Black opinion columnist, expressed her happiness with the decision, stating she had been forced out for speaking the truth.
