US military transport plane arrives in Moscow in rare occurrence

A U.S. military transport plane, a Boeing Globemaster with tail number 07-7181, touched down at Moscow's Vnukovo airport on Tuesday, according to flight tracking service Flightradar24 data. The aircraft had flown directly from Riga, Latvia, to Moscow. Reuters could not confirm the presence of cargo or passengers on board. The Kremlin denied having any information regarding the plane's presence.

The plane arrived in Riga on August 23 from Camp Springs airbase near Washington, D.C. The last direct flight of a U.S. registered jet to Russia from Europe occurred in January, carrying special envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner for peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine. The Kremlin stated last week that there is no information about another visit from Kushner and Witkoff, as U.S.-Russia talks on Ukraine have largely stalled due to the Iran war.

The Moscow Times has been labeled an "undesirable organization" by Russia's Prosecutor General's Office, leading to criminalization of its work and staff risk of prosecution. These actions aim to silence independent journalism in Russia, which The Moscow Times denounces. The journalists refuse to be silenced and seek support from the public to continue their work.
