BLOs are first interface between Election Commission, citizens: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted the crucial role of booth-level officers (BLOs) as the initial point of contact between the Election Commission (EC) and the citizens of India during a recent interaction with over 500 BLOs and 30 BLO supervisors from Uttar Pradesh. The CEC emphasized that BLOs are the bedrock of trust in the electoral process, serving as the foundational pillars of the world's largest democracy.

During the session, BLOs had the opportunity to directly address their concerns and queries to the CEC. Kumar stressed that the preparation of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections in India are carried out meticulously in accordance with the Constitution, laws, and instructions issued by the Election Commission. He also commended Uttar Pradesh's BLOs for their instrumental role in the preparation of electoral rolls, particularly after the successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in April 2026, which resulted in the inclusion of 13.39 crore electors in the final voters' list.

This process, executed by 1.77 lakh BLOs with the concurrent audit of 5.82 lakh booth-level agents appointed by recognized political parties, underscored the significant responsibility and trust placed in these officers by the EC.
