[UPDATED] Mother's boyfriend arrested over alleged sexual harassment of schoolgirl

Police have arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of a 15-year-old girl in Kuala Lumpur. The suspect is the deceased girl's mother's boyfriend, according to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus. The case came to light during investigations into the death of the victim's 14-year-old sister.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days until August 31 to facilitate investigations. The arrest follows the girl's mother reporting the bullying allegations to police at 1.59 am on August 18, after her daughter was found unresponsive at their home in Jalan Langkawi. The police investigation has recorded statements from 92 people, including teachers, students, family members, and witnesses.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has directed various educational departments to conduct an internal investigation into the bullying and discrimination allegations at the school. The ministry is cooperating fully with the police and providing psychosocial support to the deceased's family, students, teachers, and the wider school community.
