The shadow of the United States is lengthening over southern Greenland: "We will lose our homes"

The Narsarsuaq Museum no longer operates a fixed schedule. Since the airport closed in spring, only a few visitors arrive in this remote area of southern Greenland. Yet, if someone inquires about the home of Ole Guldager and approaches him to request the museum be opened, he welcomes them gladly. The museum occupies one of the barracks of the former military base, a long wooden building painted red and with a brick chimney.

Beside the entrance, an engine of a World War II aircraft is displayed, corroded by decades of exposure to the elements. Behind the building, the landing strip extends that U.S. soldiers built in record time. Today, however, that same country emerges not as an ally of the past, but as an increasing threat to the sovereignty and natural resources of the island, especially in places like Narsarsuaq, one of the three bases the United States aspires to reopen.
