Trump says Strait of Hormuz has been demined, warns Iran not to plant more

President Donald Trump asserted on Tuesday that his administration had completed the de-mining of the Strait of Hormuz, warning Iran against placing any additional mines in the crucial waterway. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the US, via its Space Force, was monitoring every inch of the strait, which serves as a vital conduit for global energy supplies.

The US has adopted a zero-tolerance stance towards mine placement, Trump emphasized. Despite a week-long hiatus in direct air strikes between the US and Iran, ongoing attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz persist as the two nations jockey for control over the narrow maritime passage. As of Monday, oil shipments through the strait stood at 5 million barrels per day, a significant decline from over 20 million barrels per day prior to the conflict, representing approximately one-fifth of all barrels consumed worldwide.
