Trump says Strait of Hormuz has been demined, warns Iran not to plant more

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that all mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz had been detonated or removed, warning Iran against placing any new mines. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the United States, through its Space Force, was monitoring "every square inch" of the strategically important waterway, which is a crucial component of the global energy supply chain.

Trump emphasized that there was a "Zero Tolerance policy" on mine placement in full force and effect. Despite the absence of air strikes between the U.S. and Iran for weeks, attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz persisted as both nations contended for control of the narrow maritime passage. According to provisional data from shiptracker Vortexa, oil transits through the strait stood at 5 million barrels per day on Monday, a significant decrease from over 20 million barrels per day prior to the war, representing roughly one-fifth of the worldwide oil consumption.
