US offers to lift Iran sanctions if Tehran reopens Strait of Hormuz, stops proxy attacks - report

The United States extended an olive branch to Iran, proposing to lift sanctions and end the naval blockade if Tehran allows the Strait of Hormuz to reopen and curtails attacks by its regional proxies, according to Saudi news outlets Al-Hadath and Al Arabiya. A senior Iranian official conveyed the US proposal through Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir during his visit to Iran.

The proposal, based on a memorandum of understanding between the two nations, sought to open the strategic waterway and halt proxy activities. Iran's Supreme National Security Council spokesman stated that Tehran would deliberate internally before responding. The talks, a part of Pakistan's efforts, concluded with Munir meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other high-ranking officials.

The presidential office described the visit as "very fruitful," while the president demanded the US honor its commitments. Meanwhile, the Trump administration intensified economic pressure on Iran and threatened secondary sanctions on entities engaging with Tehran. Iran, in response, cautioned that cooperation with these measures would be deemed hostile.

The Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global oil and gas transport, has been experiencing reduced traffic due to Iranian threats and restrictions.
