Task force probes former Kano LG chair over alleged illegal supply of Pentazocine

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has launched an investigation into former Rogo Local Government chairman, Yahuza Musa, over allegations of illegally supplying Pentazocine injections to at least two individuals without their consent. Dr Ibrahim Garba Muhd, the task force Secretary, revealed the allegations in a Monday statement.

According to the task force, Musa allegedly provided the controlled drug to a 63-year-old woman, who claimed the injections were administered without her knowledge or consent. The woman's daughter told the task force that the continuous injections led to her mother's addiction.

Additionally, a 25-year-old man alleged that Musa supplied him with Pentazocine for over two years, causing severe damage to his hands. The man's drug use began after he obtained a legitimate prescription at an unregistered clinic run by Musa. The clinic's license had since been revoked. The victim spent approximately N6 million on the injections during the first six months of 2026, continuing to buy and inject the drug despite pleading for help.

Musa was subsequently arrested following an undercover transaction conducted by task force operatives. The investigation into Musa began after the 25-year-old man reported the matter at the Kiru Reformatory Centre. The woman's case is currently being dealt with in the courts. Task force Chairman Muhuyi Magaji denounced the allegations as a "pathetic and inhuman attitude" and emphasized that those involved in destroying the youth and harming Kano's economy will be pursued, arrested, and prosecuted, regardless of their political, religious, or cultural affiliations.

The task force reaffirmed its commitment to zero tolerance for illegal drug distribution, particularly by unlicensed clinics and individuals abusing positions of trust. They also pledged to continue working with rehabilitation and reformatory centres to support victims, employing undercover operations, surveillance, and prosecution to combat illegal drug networks.

Residents are urged to report any information about the illegal sale or distribution of controlled drugs to official channels, as such information could save lives.
