Zahid wants PAC to probe management of TH after 2017

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the deputy prime minister, has suggested that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) should create a special body to investigate the management of the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) from 2017 onwards. This proposal aims to clarify the true situation of TH's management and governance issues based on factual evidence, according to Zahid.

The deputy prime minister believes that such an investigation would help correct public perception about TH's management, dispelling claims of "sakau". The National Audit Department's certificate confirms that TH's audit was conducted according to the Tabung Haji Act, which mandates the National Audit Department to carry out the audit.

Zahid did not express interest in the proposal for re-establishing a Registry of Companies Investigations (RCI) to examine TH, stating that the PAC, having a legal mandate as per its duties and responsibilities, would be a more suitable entity for conducting the investigation. The recommendation was made during a press conference at the Forum Musyawarah Nasional 2.0, attended by prominent leaders from Umno and Pas, including Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Pas counterpart Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Former auditor-general Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad refuted allegations of direct theft at TH during her tenure.
