Ramkarpal calls for inquest into death of 14-year-old student

Kuala Lumpur police are probing possible harassment tied to the untimely death of a 14-year-old student on August 18. Former deputy law and institutional reform minister Ramkarpal Singh has called for an inquest into the case, citing suspicious circumstances surrounding the teenager's demise. As the girl's mother claimed her daughter had lodged a complaint about being bullied, Ramkarpal emphasized that holding an inquest would ascertain the cause of death and offer solace to the grieving family.

The MP highlighted that previous incidents involving deaths or grave injuries linked to bullying included T Nhaveen and Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain in 2017, Muhammad Alif Sultan Alias in 2016, and a brutal assault on a schoolgirl in Sarawak in April 2014. "All efforts must be undertaken to prevent such incidents from recurring," he stated.

"This is a matter of public concern, and I urge Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus to confirm whether an inquest will be conducted." Earlier, Fadil announced the arrest of a 51-year-old man, the girlfriend of the deceased girl's mother, on suspicion of sexually assaulting the deceased's older sister. This arrest follows the police investigation initiated on August 19 after the girl's mother filed a report, leading to over 90 recorded statements.
