Qatar Museums to Present Uzbekistan: Heritage in motion in September

Qatar Museums (QM) will unveil Uzbekistan: Heritage in Motion, a significant exhibition curated by the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in collaboration with the Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF) of Uzbekistan. The show, set to open at MIA's Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Temporary Exhibitions Gallery on September 3, 2026, and run until November 28, 2026, will showcase more than 1,000 years of Uzbekistan's artistic and cultural heritage.

This exhibition features 146 objects, ranging from a monumental painting and Timurid architectural fragments to scientific manuscripts, ceramics, jewellery, and textiles. Uzbekistan: Heritage in Motion is curated by Anastasiya Silkatcheva, an Uzbekistan-born MIA curator, and explores the ways in which Uzbekistan's Islamic-era traditions continue to influence art, architecture, and craft in the present day.

Shaika Al-Nassr, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art, expressed pride in the exhibition's global significance, noting that it highlights Uzbekistan's cultural contributions to the Islamic world and shared human heritage. The exhibition is organized into four sections: Beyond the River, Building Earth and Empire, Architects of Thought and Image, and Legacies of Clay and Thread.

Each section presents a unique perspective on Uzbekistan's rich heritage, including artifacts like a seventh-century wall painting, interactive architectural demonstrations, and contemporary designs inspired by traditional motifs. Highlights also include manuscripts, textiles, and modern works by Uzbek artists, all of which underscore the enduring legacy of Uzbekistan's cultural traditions.
