Ousted Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov says Ukraine is ‘slowly losing’ the war against Russia

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has stated that Ukraine is "slowly losing" the ongoing war against Russia. In addition to a lack of overall vision for victory, corruption and the delayed adoption of advanced technology are impeding Ukraine's progress, according to Fedorov. The former defense minister believes emerging technologies like AI-controlled drones, affordable interceptor missiles, and ballistic missiles could change the tide of the conflict.

However, the absence of a clear strategy to effectively utilize these technologies is hindering Ukraine's efforts. Fedorov also criticized the Ukrainian government for its inefficiency, estimating that the state operates at only "5% effectiveness." Despite his recent criticism, Zelensky's office claims Fedorov praised the war's progress during his tenure as defense minister.

Fedorov, who was originally part of Zelensky's team, served as minister of digital transformation before becoming defense minister in July 2026. His dismissal six months into the role sparked protests and led to the promotion of Yevhen Khmara to the defense minister position. Fedorov later gained political influence, securing a third place in a private poll for a hypothetical Ukrainian presidential election.

He subsequently called for early elections before the war concludes, a suggestion that Zelensky's office dismissed as "completely unrealistic."
