NDC candidate warns Lagos faces rising flood risk over blocked drains

Ladipo Johnson, the National Democratic Congress candidate for Lagos Central Senatorial District, has expressed concern over the rising flood risk facing parts of Lagos over the next two to three decades if the state does not take urgent action to address issues such as flooding, blocked drains and land reclamation. While unveiling his vision and legislative agenda for the district, Johnson highlighted the rising water levels around areas like Lagos Island, Marina and Lagoon, as well as the impact of major engineering projects and drainage blockage on the state's drainage system.

He pointed out that many drainage paths have been blocked, leading to water accumulation, especially around the marina and lagoon areas. Johnson emphasized the need to conduct thorough environmental impact surveys and engage the public in reorienting their practices to prevent further flooding. He also called for stronger representation for Lagos Central at the National Assembly, stressing that the district serves as the economic hub of Nigeria with significant infrastructure like ports and banks.
