My Friend Aaron

This story is about a person named Aaron, who was the narrator's childhood friend. They met at school when they were both eleven years old. Despite being the smartest in their year, Aaron didn't apply himself academically. Instead, he became obsessed with video games, eventually becoming top-sixth in the world at World of Warcraft.

Aaron had an addictive personality, leading him to make unrealistic career predictions and eventually take up prediction markets, despite lacking experience in the field. He was so focused on his plans that he disengaged from his friends' lives when they all moved on to university. After a period of isolation, Aaron returned to the narrator, now working in a pub.

The narrator helped Aaron with basic programming skills and developed a prediction market exchange together. However, Aaron's risky behavior and gambling habits led to financial troubles, causing a strain between them.
