My Friend Aaron

This story is about a friend named Aaron, who met the narrator in school when they were eleven years old. Aaron told the narrator he wanted to be his best friend, but the narrator was already friends with someone else. Aaron was incredibly intelligent, but he never applied himself academically. Instead, he became obsessed with various non-academic pursuits, such as playing World of Warcraft, attempting to become a professional football player, and claiming he would be a prime minister.

Aaron had an addictive personality, which led him to spend all his evenings playing World of Warcraft, rank sixth in the world at the time. He also tried to convince everyone that he would become a professional football player despite being overweight. After failing to secure his desired grades, Aaron stayed behind after graduating from high school, becoming a background figure in their collective memories.

He worked at a pub for a while, but eventually became interested in prediction markets and set up his own exchange. Despite his initial lack of experience, Aaron quickly became an industrious and capable amateur programmer.
