MTTD officers will remain on roads despite traffic technology rollout – Interior Ministry

The Interior Ministry has announced that personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) will continue to patrol Ghana's roads despite the introduction of the TraffiTech-GH traffic monitoring system. Press secretary Julius Anthony explained that while the automated system will complement the work of MTTD officers, it will not replace their role in enforcing traffic laws and ensuring compliance.

The TraffiTech system utilizes cameras to detect traffic violations, with offenders receiving electronic notices of their offenses and corresponding penalties directly on their phones. MTTD officers will still be responsible for prosecuting traffic offenders when necessary, particularly in cases that require legal processes beyond the scope of the automated system.

Additionally, MTTD officers will play a crucial role in public education about road safety, as their presence on the roads will help prevent traffic violations and their consequences. Collaboration among various institutions, including law enforcement agencies, the Judiciary, and the Ghana.gov platform, is essential for the successful implementation of TraffiTech.
