MCA will not cooperate with DAP in polls, says sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: According to MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, the party will not collaborate with the DAP in the upcoming elections, including the next Melaka polls. While the BN leadership will determine whether to contest the Melaka polls independently or with another coalition, the MCA's perspective will be given priority.

Chong emphasized that MCA will firmly adhere to its stance against cooperating with DAP, as per a resolution passed at the party's annual general assembly last year. Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh had previously indicated a preference for BN to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional instead of Pakatan Harapan for the Melaka polls, similar to the cooperation model adopted during the Negri Sembilan election.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously stated that any decision on political alliances must consider local sentiment, noting that the political landscape in Melaka might differ considerably from that of Johor or Negri Sembilan, necessitating a tailored approach at the grassroots level.
