Forget AMC, United’s A321XLR brings 4K OLED to every seat (yes, even coach)

In-flight entertainment on airlines has long been a gray, washed-out experience, making it difficult to enjoy even the most visually stunning films. United Airlines recently introduced its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, featuring Panasonic Astrova 4K OLED displays throughout the cabin, which has transformed the experience for passengers.

Unlike traditional airplane monitors, these OLED screens provide genuine, ink-black contrast and rich color volume, making dark scenes and shadow details appear far more vibrant and realistic. This cinematic experience extends to every seat in the economy cabin, including coach, where passengers now have a 13-inch OLED display. The 4K OLED panels also eliminate backlight bleed and limited contrast issues commonly found on traditional screens, resulting in sharp animation and enhanced visual quality.

United's commitment to improving the in-flight experience goes beyond the screen itself. The aircraft offers native Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity for wireless headphones, free Starlink Wi-Fi, and ambient mood lighting designed to combat jet lag. With these enhancements, United aims to provide a more immersive and enjoyable travel experience, allowing passengers to fully immerse themselves in their favorite movies or shows during long-haul flights.
