CIA Director John Ratcliffe reportedly visits Russia

CIA Director John Ratcliffe traveled to Moscow on Tuesday for undisclosed talks with key Russian officials, according to U.S. news outlets. This unannounced visit marked the first of its kind since former CIA Director William Burns journeyed to Moscow in 2021. Ratcliffe's arrival came via a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport plane, which departed from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland and touched down at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport later that day.

Ratcliffe, who played a significant role in high-profile prisoner exchanges between the U.S. and Russia, reportedly discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Iran during his meetings with the Russian side. On Monday, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a warning to countries to sever their financial and business connections with Iran or face secondary sanctions under "Operation Economic Outcast."

In response to the U.S. measures, China reiterated its stance against "illicit unilateral sanctions lacking international legal basis or UN Security Council authorization." The Chinese Foreign Ministry declared that economic warfare and maximum pressure heighten tensions, which could destabilize the global economic and financial system and jeopardize the rights and interests of nations.

Chinese spokesperson Lin Jian called for a de-escalation of the situation and a return to diplomatic dialogue, asserting that China would take all necessary actions to protect its rights and interests.
