Apple announces updated Mac mini, here’s everything new

Apple introduced a new Mac Mini on Tuesday that is powered by the latest "M" processor series, the M6. The entry-level version of this machine starts at $899 and includes 256GB of storage, paired with 16GB of RAM. Pre-orders for the device are available, but it will only ship after September 22. Apple claims that the new Mac Mini's AI capabilities are four times more powerful than its M4 counterpart, and that both its storage and graphics processing are twice as fast.

The new processor features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, compared to the 10-core CPU and GPU found in the M4. Apple also unveiled a Mac Mini featuring the M5 Pro chip, which starts at $1,699. This model comes with 512GB of base storage and 24GB of RAM. The M5 Pro chip typically ships with 15 cores for the CPU and 16 cores for the GPU, with options to upgrade to 18 cores for the CPU and 20 cores for the GPU.

Both versions are equipped with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a 2.5Gb Ethernet port. Users can further upgrade to a 10Gb port.

The newly released Mac Minis are set to begin shipping on September 22, accompanied by macOS 27 and Siri AI. These compact machines have gained popularity among tech enthusiasts in recent years, particularly for running local AI agents like OpenClaw and Hermes. In earlier this year, some individuals were selling Mac Minis at higher prices on platforms such as eBay due to increased demand.

Alongside the new Mac Minis, Apple also unveiled updated Mac Studio models running on the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips, priced at $2,499 and $5,499 respectively. The M5 Max starting model comes with 36GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage, while the M5 Ultra base model offers 96GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage. Earlier this year, Apple discontinued its previous base model of the Mac Mini, which originally offered 256GB of storage for $599.

The 512GB version, equipped with an M4 processor, was priced at $799 and was the only available base model at that time.
