Allahabad High Court orders relocation of Hathras victim’s family to Ghaziabad or Noida within three months

The Allahabad High Court has mandated the Uttar Pradesh government to relocate the family of Hathras gang rape and murder victim within three months, following its "unnecessary resistance" in following earlier court directives. A Bench of Justices Rajan Roy and Jaspreet Singh expressed disappointment in the State's decision on February 22, 2025, which offered relocation to Kasganj, Etah or Aligarh, but failed to acknowledge the family's plea for relocation to Ghaziabad or Noida.

The Bench deemed such orders as not being decisions of law, as they reinforced the family's perception that the State was treating the matter as adversarial litigation and was unwilling to grant the statutory benefits mandated by court orders. The court emphasized the need for immediate compliance, directing the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to submit a compliance affidavit.

Failure to comply would result in the Additional Chief Secretary having to appear before the court in person on November 30. The victim's family, who have been awaiting resolution for six years, expressed their frustration in The Hindu, stating that their lives remained unchanged and they desired relocation to Delhi-NCR for safety, as the offered alternative districts were close to Hathras.
