Warm week ahead, thunderstorms likely on Thursday

This week in the Netherlands begins warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 21 to 28 degrees. On Monday, the high will hit 21 to 24 degrees. Tuesday is expected to be warmer, with highs of 23 to 25 degrees across most of the country, though the southeast may be cloudier. Wednesday is forecast to be muggy, with temperatures between 24 to 26 degrees, and there is an increasing chance of showers later in the day.

Thursday is predicted to be the warmest day of the week, with a high of 25 to 28 degrees, near tropical in the southeast. The national weather service KNMI predicts heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon, some of which could be severe, possibly bringing hail and strong gusts. Friday is expected to be cooler, with temperatures around 19 to 22 degrees and additional showers.

The meteorological summer, which ends on August 31, will see cooler weather through the weekend, with temperatures around 21 degrees. As of Sunday evening, KNMI has no weather warnings in effect, but alerts for the Thursday and Friday storms are likely to be issued up to 48 hours ahead.
