Spanish Health Minister Elma Saiz denounced Monday's remarks from People's Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo as "massive irresponsibility" after he called for a confinement decree in Ceuta due to a "health risk" associated with migrants in the autonomous city. "Ceuta does not need to generate anxiety and fear. Feijóo did not propose solutions, but rather extended the anxiety," Saiz criticized during an interview on La Hora de La 1.

"There is no risk of infection. What is contagious is xenophobia. I consider this a massive irresponsibility."

Following Feijóo's statements, Health Minister Mónica García explained that health public competencies are autonomous and that with the current data, it would be "unjustified and totally disproportionate" to confine the migrants who arrived in Ceuta on July 30 and 31. The Health Department has called an extraordinary meeting for Monday to decide on sending vaccines to the thousands of immigrants.
