Ukraine and Norway sign defense and Drone Deal agreements

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Khmara met with Norway's Armed Forces Chief, Kristoffer Kristoffersen, to discuss preparations for a potential drone deal between the two nations, Ukrinform reported. The meeting focused on Ukraine's key priorities and needs, with a particular emphasis on countering Shahed jet-powered drones, which pose a significant threat to Ukrainian air defenses.

Khmara highlighted that Ukraine is actively developing countermeasures but requires support from partners to quickly expand these solutions. He also stressed the importance of assistance with interceptor missiles against Russian ballistic missiles, which are crucial in reducing Russia's capacity to produce and launch missiles. Khmara pointed out that these measures contribute to systematic pressure on Russia's war efforts.

Discussions between the two sides also centered on enhancing defense cooperation, with potential areas including drones, technology, and other solutions tested in modern warfare. Both countries are preparing the Drone Deal and anticipate signing it. Ukraine is also ready to share additional Ukrainian solutions that could benefit not only Ukraine but also its partners.

The defense minister expressed gratitude to Norway for its valuable and critically important support for Ukraine. In a previous report, Ukrinform mentioned that Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre discussed strengthening air defense, preparations for winter, and Ukraine's financial resilience during their meeting in Kyiv.
