Saved for years, ruined by rats: UP woman’s Rs 12 lakh secret savings gone

A woman from Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district reportedly lost a significant portion of her secret savings after rats infested a trunk where she had been storing cash for years. According to a report by Bharat Express, the woman had been saving small amounts since 2019, keeping it hidden from her husband. Her savings grew to nearly Rs 12 lakh.

Believing the money was secure, she did not inspect it for several years. Upon opening the trunk, she discovered that rats had chewed through a large amount of the currency, damaging many notes and scattering cash pieces. The incident went viral when a video of her and her husband sorting through the damaged notes circulated on social media. A substantial amount of the savings was lost.
