Raped Autistic Student Requires Attention

An autistic female student at the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School was allegedly raped by two watchmen. The traumatic event occurred under dubious circumstances, with one guard luring the victim with food and the other preying on her when she sought to charge her mobile phone. The regional education authorities have intervened and ordered a probe into the incident.

However, it is puzzling that the school authorities initially changed the girl's status from boarding to day student, seemingly punishing her for the horrific ordeal. Months have passed since the incident, and there is a lack of awareness regarding her psychological state. It is essential to determine whether the predators targeted other female students and to identify measures to prevent such crimes from reoccurring.

In light of these events, the regional education authorities should consider transferring the victim to another school and provide her with access to a clinical psychologist to address the trauma she has experienced.
