Family Seeks Rs. 172 Million From Sindh Govt After Man Dies in Karachi BRT Accident

A family in Karachi is seeking compensation of over Rs. 172 million from the Sindh government following the death of their father in a road accident involving a Red Line BRT construction site. The case was brought before a senior civil judge in Malir, who issued notices to the government, the Malir Cantonment Board, the project director, contractor, and other involved parties, with a summons set for September 21.

The accident occurred in January when Shahid, a father of two, was returning home late at night with his wife and child. Shahid's vehicle struck a barrier on the road near Jinnah Avenue, resulting in his death and injuries to his family members. The family's lawyer, Usman Farooq, argues that the barriers lacked proper reflectors, warning signs, and streetlights, making them difficult to see at night.

Farooq claims that the construction of the Red Line project neglected safety measures, causing the accident. As Shahid was the sole provider for his family, they seek substantial compensation to cover losses.
