Protest at Islamabad varsity turns ugly after clash between uniformed individual, students

At Islamabad’s Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUSIT), a protest turned violent after a clash between a uniformed individual and protesting students, sources indicate. The incident occurred on the university’s Chattha Bakhtawar campus, where students were protesting the dismissal of a senior official and other issues related to the institution.

A video circulating on social media captured the altercation, showing a uniformed person approaching a group of what appear to be SUSIT students. The suspect, accompanied by a woman believed to be a university official, struck a student with a stick and engaged in verbal confrontations with the students and gathered protestors.

The situation escalated, with the crowd surrounding the officer, some individuals reportedly assaulting him. In response, the suspect drew a pistol and pointed it at the crowd before discharging the weapon. The woman accompanying him attempted to intervene but the suspect then aimed the weapon into the air and fired again. Police officers quickly surrounded the suspect and escorted him out of the university.

A senior Islamabad police official later appeared in a video addressing the students, assuring them that the suspect would face strict and swift disciplinary action pursuant to the army’s disciplinary procedures. The police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
