China and Jordan call for Strait of Hormuz to get back to normal after US-Iran conflict

China and Jordan have jointly called for the Strait of Hormuz to resume normal shipping activities and for a ceasefire between the United States and Iran to be upheld, according to a statement issued during King Abdullah’s visit to Beijing. They also emphasized the importance of addressing the underlying causes of tension through dialogue and negotiation, while respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of regional countries.

The statement, signed by both nations, called for the restoration of normal transit through the strait, which is vital for international commerce and the energy trade. Criticizing Israel's actions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the two nations expressed deep concern over illegal measures aimed at annexing parts of the occupied West Bank territory, which they deemed null and void as they violate international law and UN resolutions.

Xi Jinping, during his meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah, committed to strengthening collaboration between China and Jordan in various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, mining, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and green energy. The Jordanian monarch also pledged to expand cooperation in science and technology and further invest in Chinese enterprises.

The two countries signed multiple cooperation agreements covering diplomacy, judicial affairs, trade, and industrial and supply chains, expressing their intent to deepen their strategic partnership. As the US war on Iran continues and tensions remain high, China has been actively engaging with Jordan, who has been caught in the crossfire despite maintaining official neutrality.

Jordan's king stressed the importance of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling for increased coordination with China as a major global player to help realize this vision.
