China and Jordan call for Strait of Hormuz to get back to normal after US-Iran conflict

China and Jordan have jointly called for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen for shipping and for a US-Iran ceasefire to remain in place. During King Abdullah's visit to Beijing, both countries emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution to regional tensions through dialogue and negotiation. The statement highlighted the importance of the strait as a "vital channel for international commerce and the energy trade," and criticized Israel's actions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

They expressed deep concern over Israeli settlement activities and attempts to alter the status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Xi Jinping pledged to deepen cooperation with Jordan across various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, and green energy. The two nations also signed multiple cooperation agreements and expressed their commitment to promoting peace and encouraging talks.

Jordan, located between Israel, the West Bank, Syria, and Iraq, has had to navigate complex regional dynamics and international pressures. Despite its official neutrality, Jordan has been a target of Iranian forces. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between Jordan and China, reflecting mutual interest in development and cooperation.
