PH needs new strategy and more inclusive alliances, says Tian Chua

Tian Chua, a founding member of PKR, has urged Pakatan Harapan to adopt a different political strategy and forge more inclusive alliances than the current three-party model. The existing arrangement, consisting of PKR, DAP, and Amanah, is outdated, according to Chua, who made these remarks in an interview with FMT. As a former Batu MP, who was recently reinstated into PKR after being expelled in 2023, Chua believes that new alliances could consist of political parties, movements, and individuals who share the aspiration for an inclusive Malaysia.

Even if these parties or organizations are not large or have a significant membership, their shared vision is what truly matters. Chua acknowledged that political parties must participate in elections and field candidates, but emphasized that these are merely technical considerations. Candidate selection should be based on merit and the ability to attract votes, rather than seat distribution.

Chua further stated that PKR must establish itself as a movement that can persist beyond the current government and its president, Anwar Ibrahim. The party's primary objective should not solely be to retain power for the next election term, but rather to create a party that embodies idealism and principles. Chua suggested that PKR's experience in government should serve as a "cumulative skill" to enhance its ruling capabilities.

A similar recommendation for PKR to nurture a new generation of leaders was made by PKR Vice-President Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who emphasized that the party should develop leaders capable of carrying forward the reform agenda and leading the nation in the post-Anwar era.
