PH needs new strategy and more inclusive alliances, says Tian Chua

Tian Chua, a founding leader of PKR, has urged Pakatan Harapan to develop a new political strategy and forge more inclusive alliances beyond the existing three-party model. The current arrangement of PKR, DAP, and Amanah is "outdated," he stated in an interview with FMT. As a former Batu MP, Chua was recently invited back to PKR after his expulsion in 2023.

He emphasized that alliances could consist of political parties, movements, and individuals sharing the goal of an inclusive Malaysia, regardless of their size or membership. Chua stressed that the vision of such parties or organizations was more important than their scale. While acknowledging the need for political parties to contest elections and field candidates, he deemed these as "technical considerations."

Instead, the focus should be on merit-based candidate selection and attracting votes. Beyond the current administration and its president, Anwar Ibrahim, Chua proposed that PKR must also establish itself as a long-lasting movement, not just a party for the upcoming election term. The party should embody idealism and principles, cultivated from the grassroots up.

Chua highlighted that PKR's experience in government should serve as a "cumulative skill" to enhance its ruling capacity. Similar calls to cultivate new leadership within PKR were echoed by PKR Vice-President Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who urged the party to nurture leaders capable of advancing the reform agenda and guiding the nation post-Anwar.
