Admitting mistakes over unrealistic promises is also reform, says Tian Chua

Veteran PKR Tian Chua, who previously served as the representative for Batu in the Malaysian Parliament, is hopeful of returning to the House of Representatives and openly declaring his intention to contest the constituency once again. Despite his age of 62, he believes he still has the energy to contribute to parliament and make a comeback. However, the final decision on which constituency he would contest will be determined by the party's leadership as part of their electoral strategy.

In a recent interview, Tian Chua expressed his desire to serve the people of Batu, stating that he has a strong connection with the community due to his long-standing relationship with them over several decades. The PKR leader, who was barred from contesting again in the 2018 general election due to a RM2,000 court fine, subsequently supported an independent candidate, Prabakaran, who won the seat and subsequently joined the same party. Tian Chua maintains that his ties with the community in Batu remain intact.

Beyond his personal ambitions to return to Parliament, Tian Chua emphasized that his broader political goal is to ensure the continued existence and growth of the PKR as a political institution that can be passed down to future generations. He stated that his ultimate objective is for PKR to leave a lasting legacy for the party to endure.

Tian Chua believes that the party must continue to champion equality, social justice, and build a politically resilient support base capable of withstanding changes in electoral performance.

Comparing modern political parties to those in Western democracies such as the British Labour, Conservative, and Liberal parties, Tian Chua highlighted their ability to thrive for generations despite experiencing both victories and defeats in elections. He noted that these parties rise and fall, but they remain an integral part of their respective national political systems and continue to represent specific societal groups and political values.

Tian Chua urged PKR to strive to build a politically resilient institution that can withstand the test of time. "That is my primary hope to leave for the next generation," he concluded.
