Minority files fresh motion seeking parliamentary probe into reported $1.7bn GoldBod loss

The Minority in Ghana's Parliament has submitted a new motion to establish an ad hoc committee to probe the alleged $1.7 billion loss at the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). The Minority rejects suggestions that the Public Accounts Committee should be the sole investigator and has challenged GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi to provide evidence for extortion allegations against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to Vincent Ekow Assafuah, a member of the Minority Caucus and Chair of the Economy Committee, the ad hoc committee is necessary to uncover the circumstances surrounding the reported losses. The Minority believes this approach is appropriate and will not compromise its strategy. The proposed committee would be empowered to summon individuals who may have information relevant to the inquiry, as per Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution and relevant parliamentary Standing Orders.

The Minority Caucus remains committed to pursuing the ad hoc committee, prioritizing the investigation of the reported loss over the ongoing political dispute.
