Minority files fresh motion for ad hoc probe into reported $1.7bn GoldBod loss

The Minority in Parliament has submitted a fresh motion to establish an ad hoc committee for investigating the reported $1.7 billion loss at the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). This move comes despite calls for the Public Accounts Committee to handle the matter. Minority Caucus member and Economy Committee member, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, explained that the ad hoc committee route was chosen to ensure a thorough examination of the issue.

He emphasized that the Minority would not change its approach to suit others' convenience. The Minority supports using Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution and Parliament's Standing Orders to establish such a committee, citing relevant provisions. The proposed committee would have the authority to invite individuals with relevant information to assist in establishing the facts.

The Minority's focus remains on uncovering the truth behind the reported loss, rejecting the extortion allegations made against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin by GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi.
