Malaysia Airlines retimes KLIA flights as airspace closes for National Day flypast rehearsals

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Malaysia Airlines will adjust the scheduling of certain flights at KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 due to temporary airspace closures in preparation for the 69th National Day celebrations. These closures are set to take place at various periods, including between 11am and noon on Aug 26-28, as well as from 8.45am to 9.45am on Aug 29 and 31.

These measures are necessary to enable rehearsals and the National Day Flypast 2026. As a result, scheduled aircraft take-offs and landings at KLIA will be temporarily suspended during these times. The airline advises affected passengers to remain informed about their flight status through the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app before traveling.

Given that the school holidays commence on Aug 26 and the peak travel period extends until Sept 6, 2026, passengers flying out of KLIA Terminal 1 are strongly encouraged to arrive at the airport a minimum of four hours prior to their scheduled departure. The airline issued this guidance on its X platform. Additionally, Malaysia Airlines has reminded travelers that check-in counters will close 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure for both domestic and international flights, while boarding gates will close 30 minutes before departure.

Passengers should also anticipate potential delays at critical points such as check-in counters, immigration, and security clearance, potentially lasting for over 45 minutes due to the projected high passenger volume. The airline urged travelers to ensure they possess all necessary travel documents and double-checked entry and exit requirements through official sources before embarking on their journey.
