KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines will reschedule popular flights departing from Terminal 1 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) due to a temporary suspension of airspace during Malaysia's 69th Independence Day celebrations. The national carrier informed passengers that departures and landings at KLIA will be halted for certain periods as part of the airspace closure in the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area for the special Independence Day activities in 2026.

Passengers will be informed through their registered communication channels and encouraged to check the latest flight status on Malaysia Airlines' website or mobile app before reaching the airport.

With the upcoming school holidays and peak travel period from August 26 to September 6, passengers departing from Terminal 1 KLIA are advised to arrive at least four hours prior to their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for the airport procedures. According to Malaysia Airlines, the temporary airspace suspension is planned from 11 am to noon on August 26 to August 28 and from 8:45 am to 9:45 am on August 29 and 31, to accommodate training sessions, full-scale drills, and the Independence Day salutes.

The airline reminded passengers that check-in counters will be closed 60 minutes before departure for domestic and international flights, while departure gates will close 30 minutes before takeoff. Passengers should be prepared for longer waiting times at the main security checkpoints, including check-in, immigration, and safety departures, which could exceed 45 minutes due to the anticipated high volume of travelers.

It is advised that passengers ensure they have all necessary travel documents and confirm their entry and exit through the official channels before embarking on their journey.
