Israel’s Netanyahu says Iran ‘tried to kill’ one of his sons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his sons, although he did not specify which one. The claim emerged during a conversation with Israel's Channel 14 regarding the decision not to provide security detail for Gadi Eisenkot, a leading candidate in the upcoming elections on October 27.

Netanyahu emphasized that such protection is not a luxury, warning that without it, Iran will succeed. Netanyahu has two sons and a daughter; the identity of the targeted son remains unknown. His elder son, Yair, has been living in Miami since early 2024 with Shin Bet protection, a decision that has sparked controversy in Israel due to its cost and potential security implications in south Florida.

Following Netanyahu's announcement, journalist Amit Segal claimed that the alleged assassination attempt had been known for months but was under a gag order. In a recent message, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the deceased Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, pledged to avenge his father's death.
