Israel’s Netanyahu says Iran ‘tried to kill’ one of his sons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his two young sons, though he did not specify which one. The claim emerged during a phone interview with Israel's Channel 14, as Netanyahu discussed reports that the domestic security agency, Shin Bet, had not granted a full security detail to Gadi Eisenkot, a former army chief running against Netanyahu in upcoming elections.

Netanyahu defended the demand for continuous protection, stating that without it, Iran would succeed. It is still unknown which of his sons was allegedly targeted, with his elder son Yair currently living in Miami under Shin Bet protection, a decision that has sparked controversy in Israel due to its cost and potential security risks.

The news of Netanyahu's statement came soon after, when journalist Amit Segal revealed on Telegram that the assassination attempt had reportedly been known for months, but was under a gag order. Israeli Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, who succeeded his father after the latter's death, pledged to avenge the "blood" of his predecessor following a US-Israeli strike on February 28, during which Mojtaba was reportedly wounded.
