I await courage from accusers to report ‘extortion’ claims – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed his desire to await the bravery of those accusing him of extortion before formally reporting the matter to investigative authorities. Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall session, Afenyo-Markin stated he would submit himself to any inquiry if the allegations were formally lodged with the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or another competent investigating body.

He emphasized his expectation that the individuals making the allegations would have the courage to report the matter to authorities, assuring that he would submit to any investigation, aiming to clear his name. Afenyo-Markin has already initiated legal proceedings in response to the allegations, filing writs in two cases—one at the Accra High Court (GT 1029/2026) and the other at Achimota Circuit Court (GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026)—involving individuals and media organizations.

The Minority Leader expressed confidence in the courts to ultimately decide the matter and cautioned against overstepping the boundaries of political discourse, stating that such allegations should be addressed through lawful channels. He defended his tenure as Minority Leader, asserting his integrity and commitment to hard work and responsibility.

These remarks follow heightened calls for investigations into the extortion allegations, with supporters arguing that proper state institutions should ascertain the facts surrounding the claims.
