I’ll submit myself to any investigation to clear my name – Afenyo-Markin on ‘extortion’ allegation

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated his willingness to undergo any investigation regarding extortion allegations brought against him. These allegations were made by Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). During Parliament's emergency recall meeting on August 24, 2026, Afenyo-Markin pledged to fully cooperate with any investigation if the accusations are officially reported to the proper authorities.

He invited those accusing him of extortion to bring their concerns to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or any other competent investigative body. Afenyo-Markin has chosen to handle the matter through legal channels following the allegations. He has filed two separate lawsuits against individuals and media organizations related to these claims: one at the Accra High Court (GT 1029/2026) and the other at the Achimota Circuit Court (GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026).

The Minority Leader expressed confidence in the courts to make the appropriate determination. He defended his decision to submit himself to legal processes as an act of high moral integrity. Afenyo-Markin also warned against overstepping boundaries in political discourse, emphasizing that there are limits that should never be crossed.

He affirmed his commitment to integrity, hard work, and faithfully fulfilling his responsibilities as Minority Leader.
