HK, mainland 'seriously impressive' in broadcasting

Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union secretary-general Ahmed Nadeem praised the broadcast expertise of Hong Kong and mainland China on Monday, describing their technological capabilities as "seriously impressive." Speaking on RTHK's Backchat programme, Nadeem noted that state broadcasters in mainland China have implemented advanced technology throughout the broadcasting chain, marking a significant shift from traditional broadcasting systems.

He referenced China Central Television (CCTV) as an example, highlighting the remarkable pace of transformation on the mainland compared to countries still relying on older infrastructure. Nadeem pointed out that Hong Kong has notable strengths in technology, content creation, and development, emphasizing that its broadcasters are not only aware of international training concepts but also actively apply them in their practices.

He stated that the approach and use of technologies in content creation and broadcasting by Hong Kong and mainland China present valuable learning opportunities for other regions. Nadeem concluded by highlighting the importance of collaboration, as broadcasters face competition from global streaming platforms and artificial intelligence, while still possessing deep archives, production expertise, and strong public trust that can be further enhanced through regional cooperation.
