England drop fast bowler Carse after nightclub incident

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been dropped from the Test squad following a nightclub incident in Derby. The second Test against Pakistan is set to begin on August 27. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) initiated an investigation after receiving a referral from the Cricket Regulator. According to reports, Carse was not arrested and no charges were brought.

The second Test will now see Sonny Baker replace Carse. Video footage circulating on social media showed the 31-year-old Durham bowler in handcuffs being questioned by police outside a venue. Derbyshire Police revealed that a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly on Saturday night, August 22. However, the man was later de-arrested after agreeing to leave the area.

This latest incident adds to a busy summer for England's Cricket Regulator, who investigated former test captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson for a nightclub altercation following the first test against New Zealand in June. Both players were omitted from the subsequent test due to insufficient evidence of a regulatory breach.

The latest inquiry follows a week after England's captain Joe Root emphasized the importance of players acting as positive role models and human beings in light of several incidents and allegations regarding a drinking culture. England has faced controversy in recent years, with off-field issues during last winter's tours, including Harry Brook's £30,000 fine for an altercation in Wellington and reports of excessive drinking during a mid-Ashes series trip to Noosa.

Ben Stokes ultimately retired from international cricket, while Brendon McCullum was dismissed as Test coach, with Root announcing the team's decision to abandon curfews under new coach Stephen Fleming.
