DPK leader orders launch of task force to promote political unity

The leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), Kim Min-seok, has announced the formation of a task force to promote political unity across the nation. This announcement was made during a meeting of the party's supreme council.

Kim emphasized that the task force, which will operate under his direct supervision, will work towards forging stronger connections with other political parties. Specifically, the group will focus on building a "bridge of dialogue" with the main opposition People Power Party, and a "bridge of political solidarity" with progressive and liberal parties.

Park Beom-kye, a four-term DPK lawmaker, has been appointed to lead the task force. This development has sparked speculation about whether Kim intends to revive efforts to merge the DPK with the minor Rebuilding Korea Party, a previous attempt under the leadership of Jung Chung-rae had not been successful.

In addition to the political unity initiative, Kim also announced the creation of another task force. This second group will be tasked with reviewing issues that arose during the recent DPK leadership election. The purpose of this task force is to recommend reforms to the party's election system, with the majority of its members being external experts.
