Bangladeshi actress, 26, found dead at home, suspected of committing suicide after arguing with boyfriend

A 26-year-old Bangladeshi actress, Ridhika Ridhi, was discovered dead at her home in Dhaka on August 15, 2021. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, which appears to be a suspected suicide. The tragic incident reportedly occurred after an argument between Ridhika and her boyfriend, Hasibur Rahman.

On the night of August 14, Ridhika was at her flat with two friends. Around 11 PM, she had a phone argument with Hasibur. Following this disagreement, she asked her friends to sleep in the drawing room. At approximately 5:30 AM on August 15, Hasibur arrived at the flat and found Ridhika hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf around her neck. He reported to her friends that Ridhika had hanged herself after their heated discussion.

Police found evidence on Ridhika's mobile phone indicating a video call with Hasibur shortly before her death. Her body was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Later that day, Ridhika's mother filed a case at Vatara Police Station accusing Hasibur of abetting her daughter's suicide. Hasibur was subsequently arrested from his residence in Bashundhara Residential Area.

The investigating officer produced Hasibur before a court on August 16, seeking an order for his remand in jail. The court granted the order. According to the police, Hasibur allegedly caused mental distress to Ridhika through their phone conversations and provoked her to take her own life. Ridhika's family alleged that they had been in a long-term relationship and that he subjected her to physical and mental abuse during their time together.
