Afoko Files NPP National Chairmanship Nomination Tuesday

Paul Afoko, a former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to submit his nomination forms for the party's National Chairmanship position on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. This step is part of the extended nomination period and does not signify his official entry into the race. Afoko formally announced his candidacy in July 2026 and collected his nomination forms on August 18.

The party's National Officers Elections Committee extended the filing deadline to August 29 after a surge in interest from aspirants for various national positions.

Afoko's campaign is built around his "3R Agenda" - Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture. He emphasizes the need to mend internal divisions, rebuild the party's structures, and recapture power in the 2028 general election, a sentiment deeply personal to him given his past association with the party. Since declaring his bid, Afoko has held meetings with delegates and supporters across various regions, advocating for reconciliation and unity as key to the NPP's comeback following its 2024 election loss.

The formal submission of his nomination on Tuesday will place him on the party's electoral calendar. Subsequent steps include vetting of aspirants from August 31 to September 3, with results expected on September 5. Appeals can be made from September 6 to 7, and the national delegates conference to elect new national officers is scheduled for October 3, 2026.
