Actress Suzanne Bernert Criticises Kriti Sanon's Controversial Raksha Bandhan Ad: 'Wearing Less Clothes Being Sold As Empowerment Was...'

Actress Suzanne Bernert expressed her disapproval of Kriti Sanon's recent Raksha Bandhan advertisement for jewellery brand Giva on the social media platform X. Bernert, who was born and raised in Germany, took issue with the styling of the campaign which featured Kriti wearing an off-white bralette-style blouse, cape and draped skirt.

She stated that even from her "liberal, grown up in Germany" perspective, the advertisement was inappropriate for the festival. Bernert continued, "It's a beautiful festival with deep meaning. This looks like chalo, let's go party!" Her comment sparked a conversation among users about the representation of women's clothing and empowerment in the ad.

Bernert later clarified her stance, saying that she believes wearing less clothing being marketed as empowerment is a "biggest disservice" to women. She further emphasized that the campaign could have a negative influence on younger viewers. The advertisement featuring Kriti has received mixed reactions online with some users criticizing the creative approach and others accusing the brand of trivializing the Indian festival.

One user even called the campaign "sick" and "extremely shameful". The inclusion of a dog in the advertisement also became a topic of discussion as Kriti is shown tying a rakhi to the dog, treating it like a family member. Kriti has not yet commented on the backlash.
