2027: Benue govt warns against destruction of public utilities, billboards

The Benue State Government has issued a stern warning against the destruction of public utilities and billboards across the region. Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Solomon Iorpev, made this announcement in a statement released on Monday, following reports of deliberate vandalism by suspected criminal elements.

Iorpev described the targeted destruction of public infrastructure and billboards as "deliberate and wanton" acts aimed at undermining the developmental efforts of the Hyacinth Alia-led administration. He asserted that anyone found culpable of vandalism, irrespective of the motive, will face stringent legal consequences in line with the state's laws.

In response to the issue, the government has established a specialized task force tasked with monitoring, safeguarding, and securing public utilities and billboards throughout Benue. This task force is directed to work closely with security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the destruction, ensuring their prosecution.

The Alia administration remains resolute in upholding the rule of law and protecting both public and private investments that fuel the state's growth and development. The government also pledges to safeguard the legitimate investments and activities of residents, investors, and stakeholders from criminal activities. Iorpev called upon residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities surrounding public installations to the security agencies or the designated task force.

He emphasized that the administration will not stand by as criminal elements destroy public assets and jeopardize the peace and progress of the state, promising to deploy all necessary resources to combat such elements and prosecute offenders without discrimination.
